British rock veterans Tank are set to return with a new album called War Nation.

War Nation, set for release in early June, is the follow-up to Tank’s 2010 album War Machine.

Guitarists Mick Tucker and Cliff Evans, vocalist Doogie White and bassist Chris Dale are now joined by Steve Hopgood on drums, who was a member of Tank in the late 90s/early 00s.

White states: “We are upgrading the Tank sound while retaining all the elements that made War Machine so successful. There are killer riffs and haunting melodies.”

Apart from the new album, Tank will also release their first ever live DVD later this year. Recordings were made while opening for Judas Priest in 2011 and during the band’s show at Stodola Club, Warsaw on March 9 this year. The set list will include fan favourites such as This Means War, Echoes Of A Distant Battle, Power Of The Hunter and The War Drags Ever On.

You can listen to one of Tank’s tracks (geddit?) from War Nation below. It’s called, in distinctly Dio-esque fashion, Don’t Dream In The Dark.

Stones Throw describes Quakers as “a hip-hop collective boasting 35 members which orbits around a core of three producers: Fuzzface (Geoff Barrow), 7-Stu-7 and Katalyst.” For those that don’t know, Geoff Barrow is the backbone behind classic “trip-hop” pioneers Portishead, making the prospect of a hip-hop full-length produced by him quite exciting. Yet with so many members in the mix, can Quakers be looked at as truly a cohesive album?

As perhaps one of the year’s most off-kilter releases, The Quakers LP prides itself in experimentation, with a more-dusty-than-digital approach to production. It’s success or failure largely depends on it’s collaborators, as it’s wide array of talent never strikes the same chord twice. The opening track, “Big Cat”, featuring Synato Watts is a fitting introduction – a seemingly random topic built around the tracks growling jaguar, as Watts spits venom on top of it. This leads into perhaps the album’s best track, the Run DMC sampled, cinematically infused “Fitta Happier”, as Guilty Simpson and MED tear it’s raucous horns to shreds. Jonwayne makes an impressive showing on “Smoke”, where he straight abuses the track with a breathless flow that leaves him waiting to exhale.

Some fans might not appreciate the album’s more experimental collaborators, such as Coin Locker Kid on “Russia With Love” or the ODB-inspired “What Chew Want” with Tone Tank. Yet after a few listens, tracks like these settle into the consciousness and work perfectly with the rest of the album. But for such a lengthy LP, it does seem to run together in places, as lesser-known artists seem to get lost in the shuffle, or some old favorites sound past their prime. Still, the Stones Throw alum do the Quakers brand of beats justice on all fronts, such as Aloe Blacc – who shows yet another side to his style with “Sign Language” or Frank Nitty who does Dilla proud on the obvious homage “Dark City Lights”.

If the album has a major fault, it’s in it’s length, as at 40 tracks they maybe didn’t leave anything on the cutting room floor. That being said, the flow of the LP gets interrupted several times throughout with it’s more experimental, instrumental interludes, which may turn a lot of regular rap listeners off. However with this many cuts on the playlist, they also managed to show remarkable consistency, with heavy handfuls of paired-down, sample-driven beats, which is a long lost art form in itself. Make waves.

High Wycombe’s Jeettblack return with album no.2 on June 4th, ‘Raining Rock’ – featuring special guest spots from Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice and original Accept vocalist / frontman Udo Dirkschneider.

“It’s a good sign, I think, when you argue for days over which songs should be the B-sides, and this highlighted our positive frame of mind and the fluidity of the song-writing this time round,” says bassist Tom Wright. “The recording process was an amazing experience as well; working at Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice’s house really set the tone for the record, and the result feels like bigger, better, stronger songs…”

And here’s a taster, with a video (that with its writhing ladies may NSFW in conservative offices) set in a bleak future that nevertheless has its plus points:

“In a barren and not too distant future, Simon Cowell has been assassinated, killed with a radioactive dart by Lord Zoltan who now rules the airwaves, slaughtering bands that don’t meet his impeccable musical tastes… Now it’s Jettblack’s turn to enter Death Frequency and play for their lives. Will Lord Zolton spare them, or have these UK rockers annihilated by his blood-thirsty firing squad?”

At the beginning of the year it seemed as though Rihanna and Chris Brown had put their troubles behind them, as they worked on remix of Rihanna’s “Birthday Cake” and Breezy’s “Turn Up the Music.” However, Breezy’s remix of Kanye’s “Theraflu,” may have caused a permanent rift between the two, as Rihanna “unfollowed” him on Twitter shortly after its release.

The remix features a line that many listeners interpreted to be about Rihanna, as he freestyled “Don’t f*ck with my old bitches … like a bad fur … every industry n*gga done had her.” He continued on by saying “Trick or treat like a pumpkin … just to smash her.”

It seems that the track even convinced Rihanna that the line was directed at her, as she unfollowed Breezy just hours after the song was released. A short time later he unfollowed Rihanna.

Chris Brown also addressed the matter on Twitter, saying “Assumptions! I didn’t say any names so if u took offense to it then its something you feel guilty about.”
