Ok sorry for sounding like Rick Flair, but my first real rock concert this past Sunday was fan-freaking-tastic. Local bands Guns Out at Sundown & Defending Cain opened for Nonpoint in Winchester, VA in a tiny-ass bar & grill. This was an “intimate” venue to say the least, and those three bands rocked it out hardcore. Guns out at Sundown was first, and they are a metal band from western Maryland featuring a sound similar to Killswitch Engage. Hard metal with some screaming vocals = getting the crowd fired up.

Defending Cain was out next. They are from Martinsburg, WV and these guys are gonna go somewhere, you can bet on it. I even went home and bought their CD off their online store after the concert. They have a clean, crisp, heavy guitar sound and the lead vocalist can go from the high octaves down to a low growl with ease. Musical goodness all the way around.

Nonpoint freaking rocked. They played a little of their old-school stuff which the crowd ate up and even started a mosh pit in the middle of the floor. I was about 20 feet away from the stage and could look the lead singer in the eye, and was more than happy to throw up my horns and headbang away to the songs all night long.

Definitely won’t be my last rock concert…and I would like to thank Guns out at Sundown, Defending Cain, and Nonpoint for putting on one hell of a show.

Whitesnake mainman David Coverdale has notched up nearly 20,000 followers since joining Twitter in January – but he’s not following anyone back.

Appearing on the BBC Breakfast show this morning, he revealed he wants to keep it that way.

Coverdale said: “I have a bet going to see how far I can go with that. A lot of people I know are furious but I go, ‘No, I don’t have time – sorry!’ For me it’s an extraordinary opportunity to interact with the people who support my work, and that’s been impossible for most of the time.”

Whitesnake are preparing to tour the UK and Ireland with Journey and Thunder – and the singer vowed fans would get their money’s worth, insisting he still loves playing the band’s classic tracks.

“It’s impossible not to when you’re playing in front of appreciative crowds,” he explained. “We’re blessed with the Whitesnake choir – they do half my work for me. It’s a beautiful experience.”

And while he admitted he’s done some damage to his hearing over the years, he added there were no plans to turn the volume down.

“My ears are not bad – they could be a lot worse. I look upon it as a trade-off. There is hearing loss, of course, but it’s got to be all-embracing to me. We’re not loud to disguise anything; it’s just very powerful stuff.”

Meanwhile, Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain has revealed they’re aiming to deliver an “edgier” set to fit in alongside Whitesnake and Thunder. And while they struggle to fit everything into their set, there will always be room for Don’t Stop Believin.’

Cain told Metal Express Radio: “The song just keeps reincarnating in a different way, whether it’s on The Sopranos, Glee, Rock Of Ages and even the UK’s X-Factor. Songs are like your kids – some are successful and some just do okay; but Don`t Stop Believin’ made it to the very top. It’s one of the most downloaded songs of all time.”

Birdman has confirmed that the Big Tymers will be making their big return. But the project will not be a reunion of the late 90s duo that featured Birdman and former Cash Money Records producer Mannie Fresh; Birdman made that clear during an appearance on “RapFix Live.”

“No. Nah. Not at all,” Birdman said when he was asked if Fresh was taking part. Lil Wayne revealed that it will be Drake likely taking the secondary role on the album.

“You can’t even tell him an idea,” Wayne said about Drake. “I just told him that we were thinking about it, and he just hit me and said, ‘We’re lookin’ for some music today.’ “
