Slayer guitarist Kerry King says progress on his band’s next album is being held up by producer Rick Rubin.
And he’s hinted there may be doubts that Jeff Hanneman will contribute to recording sessions.
King’s comments come after iconic deskman Rubin suffered a range of critical comments over the past year. In 2011 ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons said he was responsible for delays to the release of their album La Futura, reporting they’d been pushed to “the brink of frustration” and admitting: “The band is wondering, ‘Where is this thing? When do we hear it?’”
In the same year Graham Nash accused the producer of having ruined Crosby, Stills and Nash recording sessions. Earlier, Corey Taylor said he’d never work with Rubin again and Muse thanked him for showing them how not to record an album.
Now King tells Eddie Trunk: “The whole hold-up now, as with every record we ever do, it seems like Rick Rubin changes distributors. We’re left in limbo until he lands somewhere.
“Realistically we’re without a deal right now. We plan on staying with Rick, but he’s working out his distribution. When that gets settled we’ll be recording.”
Rubin is gearing up to work on Metallica’s next record and is nearing completion on Black Sabbath’s reunion album with Ozzy Osbourne. Despite his criticism, Gibbons last year insisted: “He’s got a somewhat unorthodox way of doing just about everything he does. But make no mistake: he has a sense of intuition that can’t be beat.”
Meanwhile, King predicts the new Slayer record will be released in 2013, and remains hopeful guitarist Jeff Hanneman will be ready for work after his near-fatal spider bite. “He’s still trying to get back in the game,” says King. “I have enough material to do it on my own if need be – but if Jeff comes to the part with some material, hell yeah, I’ve got extras.”
In Rick Ross’ first interview of 2013, he and Peter Bailey discuss his title track on Django, Spike Lee’s criticism of the film, his acting debut on “Magic City”, reuniting with Trick Daddy and even a possible book.

Oh boy, I’m hope Ross doesn’t ruin one of my favorite new shows.
For those who don’t know Magic City premiered last year and was a instant smash, and became another winner for Starz Network alongside Spartacus.
Since Magic City takes place in Miami in the 1950s, I guess the creators of the show figure it would be a good idea to include one of the biggest names in Miami to help draw some more urban viewers to the show, the way BOSS did with T.I. and Board Walk Empire did with Michael Kenneth Williams.
I’ve never seen Rick Ross act, so I don’t know if he’s any good, hopefully they kept his dialog short.
That aside though season 2 looks like things are going to get really crazy, can’t wait.
Miami Beach, 1959.
As Ike Evans rings in the New Year at his luxurious Miramar Playa Hotel, Havana falls to Castro’s rebels. It’s a turbulent time in Miami, but it’s THE place to be. The Kennedys, the mob and the CIA all hold court here. And Ike, he’s the star of his hotel.

But everything comes at a price.
To finance his dream, he sold his soul to mob boss Ben “The Butcher” Diamond. Ike’s wife Vera, a former showgirl, and his three kids think he’s an honorable man, but he can’t break his pact with the devil. His life is a façade.
In fact, nothing at the Miramar Playa is what it seems. By day, it’s diving clowns and cha-cha lessons. By night, escorts have secret liaisons with husbands in the family cabanas, while Miami’s seedier residents and the law drift together to hear legendary singers, musicians and comics.
As Ike’s world threatens to implode, he fights for his family, and the Miramar Playa, in Magic City.
