The Rolling Stones played another “secret” show last night when they hit the stage in a 700-capacity club in Los Angeles. View a short video from the band below.
Just an hour’s notice was given that tickets were on sale for the gig at Echoplex in the city’s Echo Park area. They were priced just and offered on a lottery basis, with lucky buyers asked to put on a wristband and have a photo taken for ID purposes.
Local TV news station KTLA reported that more than 2000 people had queued up for the chance to see Mick Jagger and co, with many of them remaining outside the venue even after they knew they had no chance of getting in.
The band appeared with former member Mick Taylor and other guests Darryl Jones, Chuck Leavell, Bernard Fowler, Lisa Fischer and Bobby Keys, playing a 14-song set ahead of the tour, which kicks off on Friday.
British pop band New Build were the first to announce the Stones’ plans after their appearance at the Echoplex was cancelled to make way. They released a series of tweets pretending they wanted a showdown over the change, saying: “Right, that’s it. The Rolling Stones have nicked our gig at the Echo. This time it’s personal. Going down to have a word with Mick. Looking forward to having it out with them.”
Later they added: “Satisfactory compromise all round. Mick seems like a good lad. Good luck to ‘em, I’m sure they’ll go far. In exchange for their security not pummelling the absolute living shit out us, we will henceforth stop bitching about them stealing our show.”
But some Stones fans didn’t get the joke, with responses including: “Get the fuck over it. U guys suck, they’re The Stones” and “Don’t be hate’n your six fans will find you easy enough.”

Dan Reed has confirmed that Dan Reed Network will play a one-off show near London later this year.
They’ll appear at the inaugural single-day Enchanted Festival, a music, poetry and visual art event at Greenwoods Hotel And Spa, Stock, Essex, on October 12. Just 450 tickets will be available.
It follows the Network’s reunion for a single performance in their home city of Portland, Oregan, last New Year – but the outfit, best known for tracks Ritual and Rainbow Child, aim to make more appearances in 2014.
Reed reports: “Tickets have gone on sale today for the reunion show as the headliner of the first Enchanted Festival.
“The band and myself had a such a great time performing in Portland, and seeing so many smiling faces, that we decided this would be a good time to revisit the old songs and bring the old party back to life for old time’s sake.
“If all goes well there is promise of possibly doing more shows in 2014. Thank you for not forgetting the band or the music all these many years.”
Reed is also a curator of the Enchanted Festival. He says: “We all too often forget about why we put paint to canvas, strum a guitar, sing, dance or do whatever it is that is the passion of the moment. Enchanted is about re-igniting and exercising the creativity we allow to stagnate in our ‘going faster is better’ approach to music and art.” It also features Gregory Darling, InMe’s Dave McPherson and Georgina Harvey.
From now on I don’t want to watch any award shows, just give some beautiful Victoria’s Secret models, a few performances and I’m satisfied.
Apart from all the beautiful models at the 2012 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber also performed.
Rihanna performed her Unapologetic first single “Diamonds,” while the Biebs took the stage to do “Beauty & The Beat” and “As Long As You Love Me.” Bruno Mars was also enlisted as a guest performer, giving the crowd Unorthodox Jukebox selections like “Locked Out Of Heaven” and “Young Girls.”
Former Guns n’Roses drummer Steven Adler says he fully supports TV reality show Celebrity Rehab – despite the series’ links to a number of deaths.
Adler participated in its second season during 2008, in which host Dr Drew Pinsky tried to help him deal with his addiction issues. He relapsed into drug abuse during the season then later cleaned up.
Former Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr, actor Jeff Conaway and bodybuilder Joey Kovar all died after appearing on the show and failing to defeat their addictions. The tragedies led some critics to call for Celebrity Rehab to be cancelled.
But Adler remains fully supportive of the show. He tells Rolling Stone: “It was the best thing I ever did for myself.
“Having the treatment on TV made it easier because the camera doesn’t lie. You try to bullshit your way out of things, but then you watch yourself on camera and you see the truth.
“When you’re doing drugs you think you’re ten feet tall and beautiful. But you can’t be in denial when there’s a camera in your face.”
The drummer says he’s been sober since 2008 and continues to fight his condition every day. “I used to wake up in the morning and say, ‘Oh God,’” he recalls. “Now I wake up and look forward to life.”
Instead he’s focusing on his new band, Adler, and their extensive touring plans for 2013. He says: “Out of respect for the fans we’ll probably do Sweet Child O’Mine and Mr Brownstone. But beyond that it’s all about this band.
“I’m not angry with Axl any more. I feel blessed that I got to work with him and achieve what I achieved with him. I’ve grown up and matured.”
In her promo run for Nicki Minaj’s new album “Pink Friday Roman Reloaded: The Re-Up,” Nicki Minaj stops by Power 105.1 to talk with DJ Envy, Charlemagne and Angela Yee to talk about a few things.
In the clip she talks about her release of Pink Friday, new fragrance which is also called “Pink Friday,”
DJ Whoo Kid and Loaded Lux stop by the Howard Stern Show on Sirius earlier this week to judge a battle rap with show personalities Sal Governale (Pouchy G) and Jon Leiberman (2 Live Jew).
This show had me cracking up, DJ Whoo Kid talks about his crazy marriage with his Asian wife, and porn stories with his dad and sons; Loaded Lux laid down a few bars.
In a story we’ve been reporting on since July, AnimationOnFox gives us a sneak peak of the season premiere of The Cleveland Show, entitled “Menace II Secret Society”, which will feature each ?uestlove, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Bruno Mars, Will.I.Am as members of the hip-hop illuminati.
Elephant is the first single off Lonerism, the new album from Australian psych-rockers Tame Impala.
Track: Tame Impala – Elephant
File under: like Pink Floyd (or Norman Greenbaum) playing 70s glitter rock under the watchful eye of Liquid Len’s Lensmen
Dunno about you, but this video reminds us of the opening sequence to an early episode of Dr Who. (In fact, parts of the song itself also remind us of the Dr Who theme tune. Or maybe Norman Greenbaum’s Spirit In The Sky, we dunno.)
Or then again, possibly the clip recalls the telltale moment on the Old Grey Whistle Test when the programme’s producer used to press his one-and-only special FX button (you know, the one marked ‘swirly Spirograph acid-trip effect’) during a Steve Hillage guitar solo.
Whatever. Tame Impala are set to tour to the UK in late October and early November. The shows begin at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on October 30, before moving on to Manchester’s HMV Ritz on November 1, Sheffield Leadmill on November 2 and finally Glasgow ABC on November 3
The band’s new album, Lonerism, is out on October 8 in the UK.
Europe have released a video for the track Firebox, taken from recent album Bag of Bones.
Unashamedly hard rock and building on impressive 2009 outing Last Look at Eden, Joey Tempest and co say the record is their most successful since their 1998 reunion.
Black Sabbath will play the Birmingham O2 Academy on May 19.
The low-key date is the band’s third confirmed appearance after they replaced their planned world tour with an ‘Ozzy Osbourne & Friends’ billing, following guitarist Tony Iommi’s diagnosis of cancer. He’s completed chemotherapy and continues to recuperate.
Sabbath, without original drummer Bill Ward, will appear at this year’s Download Festival at Donington, UK, in June and also at Lollapalooza, Chicago, US, in August.
The Birmingham warm-up is their first hometown appearance in 13 years. Tickets go on sale on Friday.
Sabbath are currently working on their first studio album in 33 years with producer Rick Rubin.
